Deep Tissue Pressure Injury (DTPI) starts below the surface. This isn’t your typical skin breakdown—it’s damage to the muscle and soft tissue caused by intense or prolonged pressure and shear.
The Warning Signs:
• Persistent, dark discoloration (purple/maroon).
• Skin may be intact, but feels boggy, mushy, or firm compared to surrounding tissue.
• Localized warmth or coolness.
Identify it early! DTPI can rapidly progress to severe injury.
